The Ugly Face Of Irish Landlordism – Protest At The Dáil On April 1St

A Brazilian-Portuguese family in Donegal has been evicted in brutal circumstances. There was no court order – heavies just threw the tenants out.

This is totally illegal – but unfortunately is not an isolated incident. Landlords regularly evict people with no legal basis – and hope that tenants do not know their rights.

In the Donegal, the landlord said that he was turning off water and electricity. He packed the tenant’s personal items into black plastic bags and put them outside. He even warned that the guards and social services could take the children.

Tenants have had enough of this type of abuse. We need to overhold when an eviction notice comes through. You can actively resist being thrown onto the street. Assert your legal rights – and resist.

  • Contest every eviction notice at the RTB.
  • Even if RTB agrees with the landlord, insist they get a court order to evict you.
  • Form a local phone tree and call on neighbours to show solidarity.
  • Get to the EVICT THE GOVERNMENT DEMONSTRATION on APRIL 1st.
