People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny has today welcomed the news that funding will be made available for the commencement of the medicinal cannabis access programme later this year.
The TD, who has long campaigned for access to medicinal cannabis, said that whilst the announcement was favorable, that the programme needed to ensure access to a wider cohort of people, including people suffering from chronic pain.
He said: “This is very welcome news today that the medicinal cannabis access programme is receiving funding to begin. However, there are a large number of people in this country who could see a real benefit from inclusion in the scheme that is not currently in line to be given access to medicinal cannabis. I would encourage the Minister to give access to people who suffer from conditions such as chronic pain access to the scheme, along with other conditions.”
Deputy Kenny will raise this issue at Promised Legislation in the Dáil today at approximately 12.30pm.
